ART FRUITION: An On-Line Art Ministry Academy

Are you interested in learning more about ministry through visual art? There's a new on-line school coming available.

ART FRUITION MINISTRY ACADEMY
Jessie Nilo, Founder and Director of VineArts Ministry at Boise Vineyard Christian Fellowship in Boise, Idaho is starting an on-line Art Ministry School. Courses begin September 15, 2015 and will run through April 19, 2016. On-line application available starting July 6, 2015.
Art Ministry 101 is an 8-month course on the essentials of being a practitioner in art ministry. It's completely online so that anyone who can download videos online can take the course wherever they happen to be around the world. Students will study in groups and practice the foundations of visual art through a theological lens, exploring ways of ministering through visual art in practical and inclusive ways in the name of Christ.

The Art of Jessie Nilo

My friend, Artist Jessie Nilo will be having an art opening this week on Tuesday night January 7 from 5pm - 8pm at The Coffee Studio in Meridian, Idaho (6360 Saguaro Hills, Suite 100, Meridian, Idaho).

It's free to the public. Along with the beverages and food that the Coffee Studio sells, there will be live music and lots of opportunity to connect with Jessie and experience her art.

Jessie is an accomplished Acrylic Painter and Graphic Designer. She is an Art Teacher at Fresco Arts Academy (in Eagle, Idaho) and the Founder and Director of VineArts (the art ministry at Vineyard Boise church in Boise, Idaho). She has been featured in books such as Kingdom Calling:Vocational Stewardship for the Common Good by Amy Sherman, and is the co-founder of The Creative Church Conferences with author J Scott McElroy. She has been involved in several individual and group art exhibits, she paints live, and she travels the States connecting with artists and Art Ministers throughout the country. She blogs about her experiences as an Art Minister at The Lonely Art Minister and has several instructional videos on YouTube regarding arts ministry related topics.

Marten Evergreen performs at private party

Marten Evergreen has performed at concert venues and bars, in urban alleys and parks, and now in a backyard! Friday night the artists of Marten Evergreen got to be a part of a special event. We got to perform live at a private birthday party! It was my friend Heidi Tucker's 40th birthday and we held her a 70's hippie/summer beach party in my backyard. Along with normal birthday fanfare, we had a night packed with live entertainment. The birthday celebration was filled with live music, art, and dance. The evening started with live music performed by local musicians Gabe Miller, Kona Estes, and Molly Ellis. It progressed to the live art performance by Marten Evergreen, followed by dance party music by Sarah Goetter. The night ended with a drumming circle around the firepit.

This was our performance area set up at the end of the backyard in a suburban housing development.

Here is a photo of Heidi standing with the finished 2D paintings that were created during our live performance. We had stretched primed canvas onto chip board. We prepped the primed canvas by pre-painting Hebrew lettering (the Hebrew name of God: YHWH: Yahweh) and then we hid it underneath a separate piece of canvas that we stapled on top. During the performance, paint was splattered and sprayed onto the canvas and danced upon. Once the performance was over we removed the top canvas to reveal the lettering underneath.

I believe art is a language that transcends all language barriers. It's able to get past the walls of cultural differences, age, race, gender, religion, politics, economic standing, education, distance, even time. Creativity is like a conversation. There are conversations going on all the time. Conversations with the artist and the work, with the artist and the Divine, with the artist and nature, with the artist and humankind, with the artist and self. Creativity allows me to come alongside others and enter into the conversations that are already happening. I love listening to conversations. If I'm invited into the conversations this brings about collaboration. Collaboration is an invitation to the sharing of ideas and it's a huge part of building relationship. I believe humankind is a relational people. We need each other. I believe we were created that way by a creative God who is all about relationship with us. And I believe we've been given creativity as a language to relate to each other with. When we connect into the conversation through creativity and allow for collaboration, we are helping to build community together and this fosters relationship. And the walls become invisible between us.
